A very special thanks to our head sponsor, Piedmont Natural Gas.
At Rainers in downtown Greenville SC. Tiny venue with amazing bands! This is Men in Motion playing George Clinton’s Atomic Dog!
Building the glaze plan for my next series. Mostly Coyote slow cools with a few bits of Amaco mixed in. Results and details to come.
An older sculpture slated for the Flora and Fauna show in October. Hopefully we won’t be canceled by another hurricane.

Ceramic pill box. Because I am getting old and the medications are building up to the point that it is difficult to keep track.
Featuring Coyote Crazed Copper and interior Coyote Blue Purple. Fired on the Coyote slow cool schedule.

So this is a revisit of a series I did years ago featuring Florida license plates. Seems right now that I am in SC. I like projects that have a sense of place.

Little raccoon guy. A small maquette I made to test a new glaze combo for a larger sculpture. So it’s Coyote Unicorn Horn with Ancient Iron on top. The mask and tail stripes are just Ancient Iron.
I feel like I have the silky fur texture I was after. The firing schedule was the slow cool method recommended for Coyote crystal glazes.

The cardinal couple, I love this time of year, seeing them together is an inspiration. The males are so committed to their families. Featuring Amaco Red Satin Matt and Potters Choice Sepia.

These were made by a Lott boy who takes private lessons from me. Pretty spectacular, he is ten years old! Multiple clays from KY mudworks and Mayco zinc free clear.

Birch tree test plate. I enjoy teaching because I always have to come up with new ways to engage students. In this scenario I put heavy coats of slip on a plate, then let it set up. Then I found a simple concept and traced it on, using tracing paper and a round headed stylus. Final step I carved it out using a Kemper wire stylus ( not the sgraffito) tool.

More fish wall hangings. These are a demonstration of the “Texas Two Step” glaze series from Coyote Clay. I love the oil spotted look. Reminds me of river trout.

James Watkins author of “alternative firing methods” demonstrates the double wall vessel design he is famous for.
My home studio will be open for the preview as well!
Greenville Open Studios celebrates the local visual arts community with free studio tours for the public. What began as an idea among a small group of artists to raise awareness of their practice in the greater community has evolved into a full-fledged annual event. This exciting tradition is now celebrating its 20th anniversary!
